The New Education: A School Without Teachers? 120-140

Diana-Felicia Colceriu

Abstract

How would our lives look like without doctors, teachers, architects, or other professions that we now consider absolutely essential for our society? What would we, the people, end up working if robots or other complex machines would take our place? Even more, what purpose and what wishes can we still have in terms of our careers and how should we instruct the new generations if the old jobs we were preparing the students for won’t exist anymore? All of these questions come to light in a world in which technology is advancing faster than we can imagine, sometimes making us feel as though we can’t keep up with the new gadgets. In this paper, I intend to start from the concept of ,,profession”, to see where does it come from and why is it so important for us at the moment. Next, I will draw attention to limits on professions, such as the "tyranny of experts" or the reluctance of these experts to change. Once these limits are mentioned, I will focus on outlining an image of the educational system in traditional schools and then follow what are the changes that the online school brings. Moreover, I will address one of the pressing problems that the education system is currently facing, namely artificial intelligence, such as ChatGPT. Finally, I will try to imagine a world where, at school, in front of the students, there would be not a person, but a robot, and I will debate some of the problems that arise with such a future.
