Dimensions of Departure in Achille Mbembe's Thought: A Journey from Exclusion to Belonging - 100-116
Abstract
In this article, I argue that the recent rise in armed conflicts has led to a new category of people forced to leave their territories. These places become unsafe, and the risk of loss of life is imminent. Based on the ideas put forth by Achille Mbembe in some of his recent studies, I will analyze this phenomenon. Mbembe notes that leaving involves three main components: the starting point, the route taken, and the destination, each with numerous specific aspects. By removing the historical paths of the concepts he considers, Mbembe distinguishes between a personʼs place of birth, which he calls ”origin”, and the space where that person lives. This clarification leads to the idea of belonging. It distinguishes between a positive integration of newcomers in a territory and the potential mistreatment they may face from residents
