Art and AI: an Ethical Dilemma in Creative Expression - 117-132

Abstract

The implementation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques in the field of artistic creation has, for more than five decades, stirred various controversies around the notions of art, artist creativity, and author. Today, with the rise of technology and its increasing accessibility, a new ethical dilemma is added. To what extent does the use of artificial intelligence in creative expression violate certain moral and legal principles? This paper outlines some guidelines and proposals for an ethical understanding of the implications of the use of AI in artistic creation and practice, in relation to issues such as the reproduction of social prejudice, copyright infringement, the right to privacy, the protection of personal data and, not least, the perceived threat to the existential dimension of human agency.
